LAST TRIMESTER

Kids in Classroom C are starting off their last trimester at Grant School on the right foot.  Last week, we were super focused on our EcoDiorama project, which will be sharing this week.  I am excited to share this work in the halls of Grant School and Ill also share pics of great work on the blog.

Please join us for the Chili and Game Night tonight!  My family will also be enjoying the great food, good times, and Grant community from 5:30-7.

This week I am sending 6th grade math recommendations to middle school.  I will send an email home with a background of 6th grade math choices today.  Many of us spoke about 6th grade math during conferences but we didn't get to it in all the conferences.  Please let me know if you have questions about this transition.  We will have a lot more information about middle school after March 13, when the counselors come and talk to the kids.

Below is a snapshot of our work for this week:

Reading: Finish the Ecodioramas on Monday and share all week.  Readers should be at 6 book shares completed now. With any extra reading time in class, they can work on a book share this week.

Writing:  We are finishing a narrative DWA Monday and Tuesday.  This writing should demonstrate growth since our narrative unit.  The rest of the week, writing will be integrating into social studies and science. \

Math:  We are finishing our first fraction unit this week.  There will be a test on Thursday and a study guide gong home Tuesday.  This unit covered fractions as a set/region, equivalent fractions, mixed numbers and improper fractions, simplest form, and converting fractions to decimals.

Social Studies:  We have thoroughly looked at each colonial region and are now focusing on the causes of the American Revolution before looking at the Revolution itself.

Science:  We are integrating all the rest of our science work this year with our CPBL project.  As we learn about matter in this next unit, each student will apply their knowledge to an organism or object in a real world stream ecosystem.  In this unit we cover states of matter, physical and chemical changes, and conservation or mass, mixtures and solutions.  This is a fun unit which explores atoms and elements.
